INTRO

Alatas Americas, Inc. was contracted to complete the following:

  • Spool Off of Wire on Crawler Crane Winch/Hoists x 2. Cut and re-terminate the wire spool’s damaged section(s) and complete EMAG inspections.

BACKGROUND

As per the client’s request to remove a damaged part of wire on the Liebherr LR13000 Crawler Crane Winch/Hoists x 2.

ALATAS’ SOLUTION

A team of AUS Field Service Technicians went to Delaware at the client’s request because they had damaged wire ropes on their crane’s winch/hoisting system, which needed power from remote control HPUs.

Once on-site, Alatas US Techs set up a spooling unit and a remote control HPU unit to remove the wire and empty the spool. They positioned the spooling unit, checked the wire angles, and secured everything in place. Additional counterweights were added for stability.

Measurements were taken to align the hoists and spooler drum. A pump unit pressurized the brake system as per the schematic. They began spooling off Wire 1, identified the damaged area, tack-welded the rope to avoid separation, and cut and re-terminated it before re-spooling.

The same process was repeated for wire 2.

They cut 1600 meters of the damaged cables for reuse and discarded the rest. Before leaving, an AUS technician debriefed the client.

Procedures Used:

  • AUS followed Alatas procedures for all installations, removals, and inspections.
  • They used JSA-007 for wire rope NDT in situ and JSA-010 for spooling operations.
  • Electromagnetic Wire Rope Inspection was conducted as per ISO 4309 2017 standards, including visual examinations and Alatas Inspection.

  • Crane Wire Rope Inspections
  • Spooling Operations
  • Removal and Re-termination of Crane Hoisting Wire Ropes
