Background:

The tanker vessel is equipped with ORIENTAL Provision Cranes, SWL 6.0T x 15M. The luffing cylinder was experiencing leakage and required repair on board during bunkering at Singapore Anchorage.

Alatas Solution:

Drawing upon our expertise in crane luffing cylinder repairs, ALATAS responded to the owner’s request. We mobilized a crane engineer and repair team equipped with tools to remove the leaking luffing cylinder and replace the seal set.

Job Scope for the Port Side Provision Crane:

  • Proceeded to the provision crane to carry out luffing cylinder seal replacement.
  • Lifted Alatas toolbox and scaffolding materials from the supply boat to the deck.
  • Placed a wooden block on the boom rest and parked the port provision crane.
  • Erected scaffolding under the luffing cylinder.
  • Positioned a chain block and rigged up the luffing cylinder.
  • Removed hydraulic hoses.
  • Welded a nut onto the cylinder heel pin, attached a high tensile threaded rod, and removed the pin using a hydraulic hollow jack.
  • Lowered the luffing cylinder onto the deck.
  • Removed the cylinder clevis and gland seal housing.
  • Replaced all old, damaged seals from the cylinder gland.
  • Renewed all seals with a spare cylinder seal set supplied by Alatas.
  • Assembled the cylinder gland and clevis.
  • Lifted the luffing cylinder and installed both pins with a lock plate.
  • Connected all hydraulic hoses and tested the crane in the presence of the chief engineer.
  • No leakage or abnormal noise was detected during testing.
  • The luffing cylinder repair and seal set replacement were successful, and the crane is now ready for use.
