INTRO

Alatas Indonesia has been asked by a client to review a report from a third-party inspection that identified defects in the crane boom. Given Alatas’ international expertise and experienced team of engineers and designers for crane boom repairs, the client has also requested Alatas’ assistance in carrying out the necessary repairs.

 BACKGROUND


The client has approached Alatas Indonesia with a specific task: to carefully examine the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) report generated by a third-party inspection. This report highlighted various defects that were discovered during an inspection of a crane boom. Alatas Indonesia is seen as the go-to choice for this task due to their extensive experience adhering to international standards in their line of work.

 ALATAS’ SOLUTION

ALATAS Provided a working procedure for boom weld repair and deployed a multi-disciplined service engineer to supervise the repair and ensure the job was carried out according to procedure and safely

 JOB SCOPE

Ensure that all necessary materials and equipment are available for conducting boom repairs in accordance with the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).

Utilize the NDT inspection report to pinpoint the exact locations of damaged welds. Grind away the affected welded areas until no cracks remain visible. Employ Penetrant Testing (PT) to confirm the removal of damaged sections of the weld.

Perform the weld repair and protect the welded area with a covering to facilitate a gradual cooling process. Wait until the surrounding temperature returns to normal, then proceed with the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) using Magnetic Particle Testing (MT).

Conduct a load test in strict adherence to API/MIGAS regulations. After the load test, perform an NDT-MT examination of the repaired welds. Finally, repaint the areas in accordance with the specified painting requirements.
