Alatas UK’s Engineering and Design Services was contracted to undertake this TTS-Norlift crane fatigue life analysis for a client operating on their FPSO in the Bonga oilfield, Nigeria.
The electro-hydraulic TTS-Norlift FPSO crane has a maximum SWL lift capacity of the crane is Single Fall SWL 10.5Ton x R17m and Single Fall SWL 5Ton x R30m. It had completed its design life, so our client required Alatas to conduct a fatigue life assessment study of the crane to extend its use for another 21 years of operational life.
The structural fatigue life assessment study took into account the past 17 years of fatigue with an additional 21 years of life extension (a total of 38 years). The artificial fatigue measurements were based on the crane’s historic cyclic loading and anticipated future fatigue loading on the crane structure. The study’s outcome found that TTS-Norlift would have the ability to continue operational requirements on the FPSO at Bonga for the extended period.
