For these Liebherr CBB 24(30)/26 boom hinge repairs, one of the ship cranes onboard developed excessive jerking and boom wobble whenever slewing motion was started or stopped. Upon the owner’s request, our highly skilled Liebherr Service Engineer from Alatas Singapore attended to investigate.
They found there was wear in the slewing directional valve (Load-sensing valve, LUDV block), a faulty slewing counterbalance valve and the boom foot assembly was also worn. The seats for the boom hinge bearing bush and the boom foot pin were found worn down and oval in shape.
The Alatas Project Management Team established a boom hinge repair procedure based on which the Alatas afloat repair team and machinists attended and carried out the boom repairs, at anchorage.
Repairing the jib foot assembly required removal of the crane boom, in situ line boring of the boom hinges, machining of new pins, bushes & Teflon distance rings, reassembly and load testing. Pin material used was 34 CrNiMo6V (nitrated) and copper bush material was CuAl10Fe5Ni5-B.
Alatas carried out the repairs 24/7 and around the clock; managing to substantially reduce the repair time, resulting in considerable cost savings for the owner. Also, by fully utilising Alatas’ expertise, shipyard assistance was not required resulting in further savings in time and cost.
“At this point, we would like to thank Alatas for all the efforts made on board and the nice outcome and professionalism of the Alatas team that attended.”
