Introduction:

Alatas Indonesia was tasked by a client to replace the deck crane Jib bearings within a limited timeframe while the vessel was docked at the port area in Gresik, Indonesia. The testing of the cranes yielded satisfactory results, and the project was completed on schedule.

Background:

The client approached ALATAS with a request to replace the jib bearings of crane no. 3 at the jetty port in Gresik, Indonesia. Time was of the essence, as the vessels only had a two-day window available for repairs.

Alatas’ Solution:

In response, ALATAS assembled a team consisting of a multi-disciplined service engineer, two technicians, and a fitter. They were equipped with jacking tools, stud bars, and a strong backplate necessary for the jib bearing replacement.

Job Scope:

The project involved several steps:

  • Parking the jib crane and securing it with rigging tools and temporary support.
  • Removing four jib bolts to disconnect the bearing cover from the jib.
  • Using a hydraulic jack to remove the bearing cover and housing.
  • Extracting the bearing from the housing, cleaning it, and replacing it with a new one.
  • Installing the jib bearing assembly and cover using a 60-ton hydraulic hollow jack.
  • Conducting function tests with a load, resulting in satisfactory outcomes.
