Alatas Turkey assigned technicians to evaluate the hatch covers. After inspecting all four hatch covers, the specialists gave recommendations on how to repair them.

BACKGROUND

After contacting the customer regarding the inspection assignment, Alatas Turkey specialists traveled to Kocaeli, Diliskelesi, and attended to the vessel.

ALATAS’ SOLUTION

The Alatas Turkey technicians attended to the vessel to inspect the hatch covers. They made all the tests and based on these made recommendations to fix them.

Job Scope

  • After attending to the vessel, the Alatas Turkey technicians started the hatch cover inspection.
  • There were four hatch covers to inspect.
  • Hatch cover 1
  • The technicians first detected rust and corrosion on the screw cleat hinges and they recommended replacing it.
  • They detected an oil leak in the hydraulic piston both on the port aft and starboard forward therefore they recommended performing maintenance and replacing sealing equipment.
  • Rust and corrosion were detected on the wheels and on the control block surfaces. For the wheels, they recommended to rasped and painting, and for the control block surfaces, they recommended maintenance.
  • The technicians also determined that there was an oil leak in the control block hydraulic valve so they reported to replace the valve.
  • Abrasions and gaps were detected on the cover stoppers, so it is recommended to replace the shims and replace heavily worn stoppers.
  • They also reported that cover hinges and wheels should be greased at regular intervals.
  • The technicians recommended rasping and repair because there was corrosion in the rubber slots.
  • They also detected gaps in the horizontal stoppers for hatch cover 1.
  • Hatch cover 2
  • The Alatas Turkey technicians detected an oil leak in the hydraulic piston both on port aft and starboard forward too therefore they recommended performing maintenance and replacing sealing equipment for hatch cover 2.
  • They detected rust and corrosion on the wheels and in the metal hoses on the hydraulic piston. For the wheels, they recommended to rasped and paint, and for the metal hoses, they recommended to renew.
  • Then they observed that there was an oil leak on the control block pressure measuring point and they recommended replacing it.
  • Abrasions and gaps were detected on the cover stoppers, so ıt is recommended to replace the shims and replace heavily worn stoppers.
  • The technicians recommended adjusting the hatch cover line because of the gaps in the horizontal stoppers.
  • Hatch cover 3
  • The Alatas Turkey technicians detected an oil leak in the hydraulic piston on the starboard forward therefore they recommended performing maintenance and replacing sealing equipment for hatch cover 3 too.
  • They observed that there were rust and corrosion in the metal hoses on the hydraulic piston and on the lock hinges and surfaces. For the metal hoses they recommended to be renewed and for the lock hinges and surfaces, they recommended to rasp and grease.
  • Hatch cover 4
  • Technicians of Alatas Turkey detected an oil leak in the hydraulic piston on starboard forward therefore they recommended performing maintenance and replacing sealing equipment for hatch cover 4 too.
  • They detected rust and corrosion on the wheels and in the metal hoses on the hydraulic piston. . For the wheels they recommended to rasped and paint, and forthe metal hoses they recommended to renew.
  • The technicians also determined that there was a oil leak in the control block hydraulic valve so they reported to renew the valve.
  • Abrasions and gaps were detected on the cover stoppers, so ıt is recommended to replace shims and replace heavily worn stoppers.
  • In inspection for the hatch cover 5;
  • Technicians of Alatas Turkey technicians detected an oil leak in the hydraulic piston on starboard forward therefor they recommended to perform maintenance and replace sealing equipment for hatch cover 5 too.
  • The technicians reported that there were rust and corrosion on the wheels and they recommended rasping and painting them.
  • They also observed a corrosion in the ruber slots, so it is recommended to repair the rubber slots.
  • Following the completion of the technicians’ suggestions based on their assessment of all four hatch covers, they made a separate observation for each cover.
  • They observed that the hoses on the hydraulic pistons started to wear out and the hydraulic hoses needed to be renewed.
  • The sealing felts on the upper surfaces of the covers were damaged, so it is recommended to renew the surface sealing equipment.
  • The technicians also detected corrosion in the rubber slots and they recommended repairing the rubber slots.
  • It was detected that there is an internal leakage in the hydraulic pump. The pressure value drops from 250 bar to 120 bar by Alatas Turkey technicians and they recommended to service the hydraulic pump.
  • Finally, Alatas Turkey technicians stated that all covers move slowly owing to an internal leak in the pump. It is advised to keep the hydraulic pump and control blocks in good working order.
