BACKGROUND

The crane suffered a wire rope failure which caused the crane jib to collapse, fall over the raised hatch covers, and then buckle. The owners decided to route the vessel to Singapore to have the damaged jib offloaded and repaired ashore.

ALATAS’ SOLUTION

ALATAS Marine Engineering Pte Ltd is experienced in this kind of accident repair. Our workshop team arranged to offload the boom from the vessel at Singapore anchorage via a flat-top barge and land transport to our fabrication workshop.

Our Technical Director along with the class surveyor conducted a joint inspection of the deck crane boom damage. A steel repair plan was then drawn up. Alatas-certified welders and crane technicians carried out the required repairs using class-certified high tensile steel plates and original spare parts, such as new rope sheaves and grab accessories.

Upon repair completion, the boom was re-delivered on board and installed by our field service team. Crane commissioning, setting limits, and function testing was carried out by our Senior IHI Deck Crane Service Engineer. Then, the crane was overload tested in the presence of the class surveyor and again declared fit for service.
