BACKGROUND

Alatas Turkey technicians performed the following tasks:  remove the limit switch, drain the gear oil, and remove and suspend the gearbox. Once the Alatas Turkey technicians finished all the corrections to the gearbox, final checks were made, and no problem was found during the test.

After the port entrance procedures were completed, Alatas Turkey technicians attended the ship and started the work by meeting with the ship’s personnel.

ALATAS’ SOLUTION

After all checks, The gearbox connection bolt holes were cleaned and torqued using Loctite by Alatas’s technicians. Then our technicians requested the ship’s personnel to put the gear oil in the gearbox. After the final checks were made, the ship was notified for testing. There was no problem during the test, and the work was handed over to the ship.

Job scope

Firstly, the limit switch was requested to remove by the ship’s personnel. After the hydraulic motor was removed and suspended, the gear oil was drained by Alatas Turkey technicians. Our technicians suspended the drum, removed the bearing cover and connection bolts, removed the drum from its place, and transferred it. Alatas’s technicians removed and suspended the gearbox. And then the transmission gear of the new transmission was checked by our technicians.

On the second day of the job, the gearbox connection bolt holes were cleaned and torqued using Loctite. It was transferred to the gearbox, and the bolts were mounted using Loctite. Technicians then torqued bolts 250-700 and 1100 nm in 3 steps. Alatas Turkey technicians requested from the ship’s personnel to assembly limit switch and to put gear oil in the gearbox. After the final checks were made, the ship was notified for testing. The gearbox was tested with the crane operator, chief engineer, second engineer, and engine cadet. There was no problem during the test, and our technicians handed over the ship.
