INTRO

Alatas was assigned to conduct a visual inspection of the crane and verify the torque of all bolts surrounding the crane on behalf of British Steel.

BACKGROUND

This routine check was recommended by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to ensure the crane’s optimal performance and safety.

Job Scope

  • Crane isolation
  • Customer placed the crane in park position with a security pin to prevent boom movement
  • Certified technicians from Alatas Rope Access attended to inspect and calibrate bolt torque in typically inaccessible areas
  • Bolt checking commenced from the machine housing, extending up to the top of the jib
  • Simultaneously, Alatas engineers conducted a comprehensive visual inspection of the entire crane, assessing its overall condition (Crane Condition Evaluation)
  • Visual inspection included examination of luffing, hoisting, and slewing brakes, with any findings noted
  • Rope access team inspected all bolts around the jib, identifying loose bolts and tightening them to OEM specifications using calibrated torque wrenches
  • Alatas visually inspected all components, such as pulleys, ropes, crane structures, motors, pins, grease lines, brakes, ladders, easily accessible bolts, electrical rooms, and hydraulic hoses
  • A detailed inspection report was then compiled and shared with the customer.
