Crane winch overhaul carried out in South Africa. Crane hoisting winch removed after cargo discharge operations. Hoist lower limit switch bypassed to remove wire rope. Crane limit switch and hoist motors removed from crane winch, oil drained from winch gearbox, winch then removed from vessel to Shipyards workshops.

Removed gearbox from winch, back plate and disc brakes. Metal particles found in gearbox. Pitting was present on some of the gear wheels. Required parts were not immediately available, so winch was rebuilt and replaced. Crane to be left out of use until required parts replaced in next convenient port.
