Refurbishing project of 5 units Liebherr Deck Cranes type D2xSB 20 successfully concluded.
The vessel is equipped with 2 twin cranes 2 x 20t and a single crane 20t, build in 1979. The steel structure showed severe corrosion, rendering the cranes unfit for use. Four new crane booms were needed. Liebherr quoted a delivery time of 10-12 months and a very high price, both of which was unacceptable to the owners. Furthermore, the Chinese ship yard, where the vessel was docking at the time was unable to repair or rebuild the booms.
ALATAS Singapore was called to the rescue and contracted to manufacture 4 new booms, repair the 5th and carry out a full overhaul of all rope winches, slewing gears, hydraulic pumps and motors, hook blocks as well as re-manufacturing two twin hook traverse. Upon commissioning, the crane’s entire electrical and electronic control system was re-wired, calibrated and tested for automatic twin crane operation. This was carried out at anchorage, using floating crane assistance. Making the commissioning work more difficult, was a full deck load of construction machinery, that could not be disturbed...
ALATAS vast resources and technical expertise were put to good use to successfully conclude this complex task, on time and within budget. |
