A Liebherr deck crane
on a bulk carrier of one of Alatas' world wide customers
experienced a critical failure of the main slewing bearing
ring, rendering the crane out of order and in danger
of toppling.
The vessel was fully
loaded and on voyage to the discharge port, where the
use of the impaired crane was absolutely necessary,
as harbour cranes were not available for dockside discharge
Experiencing Alatas
expertise in the past the owner diverted the vessel
to Singapore and Alatas was entrusted to manage the slew bearing change-out.
Receiving notice only
3 days in advance, Alatas made
good use of it's world wide connections and managed
to have a replacement slewing bearing ready for the
customer in 3 days. Alatas management expertise
and the extensive experience of it's professional staff
and engineers paid off. Detailed planning and preparations
where carried out prior arrival of
the vessel. Work force, equipment and a floating crane
where at the ready soon after arrival and Alatas managed
to have the crane removed, replaced the bearing, re-installed
it onto it's pedestal and re-connected the boom in less
then 10 hours (!). The floating crane time alongside
was kept well below the time limit of 12 hours and very
expensive additional barge crane charges where avoided.
Congratulations to everyone
involved for a job well done ! |
